The "Unsung Heroes", Legacies of the Bangladeshis in UK

This book was published 2010 and  had no clue that it existed. It is only when in recent times, a snippet of an article was feature in a thread of a facebook friend, Mr Boiler man. On seeing this it cought my attention, Mr Boiler was unable to supply the details for me to acquire a copy. Few months passed after that and Mr Boiler had another thread in his FB post and this time he had more of the page in it, and that is when I caught the title and started googling it.

This book is not widely publicised or advertised, and the title is a bit difficult to make out because of the "script" font. Once I located the publisher I ordered my copy.  I am glad I purchased this book.

This book is titled: "Unsung Heroes, Legacies of the bangladeshis in UK", written by Syed Mahbub Alam and self published, where books are print on demand; the ISBN number is: 978184426749-1.

This book was a lovely find simply because of the type informatio it had in one book, unlike anyother. Mahbub has collated information about the pioneers of the past, some are still living and many of whom haved passed away.  The lists include bangaldeshi, Sylheti elders from all over United Kingdom.

When opened the book first time and saw what was in there my eyes lit up, as a researcher and a writer, it was gold, like the adage, "old is gold".  These listed people were the building block of the Sylheti, bangladeshi community in United Kingdoms; who in various roles in various platform pursued to better the people in Uk and as well Bangladesh.

The book is very useful for me and very practical and a smart feature that I like is that the content page doubles up as a index page, see everyones name in normal alphabetical order as well as their birth and death year.

The author Syed Mahbub Alam is someone I didn't know before getting hold of his book but he is someone prominent in the Bangladeshi press community. I thank him for translating his original book that he wrote Bengali after some encouragements.

I appreciate the very reason why he wrote the book and I am one of the direct benefactor. We are both one in the the though that;

        "there is very little awareness amongst the second and third generation immigrant bangladesdhi
         about their migratory history.I hope that this book will impart them with some idea of the early
         struggles og their forefather".

This is a must book for anyone who is interested in the Sylheti communities journey in United kingdom, this book takes you to the grassroot level of the yester years, 50s, 60s, 70's earlier and uptil the 2010.

Names like Aftab Ali, Isreal Ali, Ayub Ali Master, Suna Miah a.k.a T. Ali a very important man for the laskers of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

All in all I love this book and can't praise it enough as I know how difficult it is to collect this kind of information and I give my regards to the author.
